…the next time you’re really stuck.
This note is a gold mine for helping you get unstuck.
[Open in a new tab here if you want to check it out.]
But it turns out that stuckness is a massive topic that plagues creator’s wanting to share their work (is that you? See me cautiously raising my hand from the back row…)
and I have more to say.
Now real quick, there are two reasons why I write these Notes from the Field.*
Then there’s unofficial Reason Number Three.
I know why I get stuck. I stew in my own ideas past the point where it’s helpful.
And sharing something useful in this newsletter?
It helps me not get stuck in my own thinking.
Do you already know why you get stuck?
Read on and see what grabs your attention.
→ YOU’RE STUCK BECAUSE… YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU THINK (yet)
You’re doing something new! You want a place to practice, experiment, and share. You don’t want a huge audience or feedback yet, but you do want to get into action posting things ‘in public.’
That makes total sense! I’m doing this right now as I play with new messaging and offers.
So you’re ready but not READY?
Block anyone who keeps you from taking action! (<- click for ‘how to’)
→ YOU’RE STUCK BECAUSE… OF WHAT “THEY” (might) THINK
You’re doing something creative and new now, but you used to do something different. Maybe you were even well known for the thing you used to do?
High-flying finance executive turned healer. Engineer turned ceramicist. International director turned brand designer. You’re not alone in this.
If your work isn’t for them, then don’t make decisions based on them. (<- click for ‘why’)
→ YOU’RE STUCK BECAUSE… THAT ONE PERSON (might) HATE YOU
You had an awesome discovery call… and you haven’t heard a peep since. Your brain fills with thoughts of what if they hate me, and your momentum slows.
Ask yourself: what’s one action I CAN take? (<- click for ‘ideas’)
Send a nice email with details of what you discussed. Add an expiration date to your proposal. Move on. And remember: You can’t afford to get stuck because you’re waiting for other people.
If you had to sum up your sticking point in a few words, how would you describe your stuck-point?
I worry what people will think.
My ideas are too all over the place.
No one expects this from me.
Click here to tell me about it–if simply putting words to it sounds supportive.
I’d love to help you move through your stuckness.
*Reasons Why I Write Notes from the Field
One: Open my mental vault. Make use of what’s inside. Help you think more effectively about the things you’re already thinking about.
Two: Experiment with varied forms of sharing what’s in the vault. I’m wired to connect informational dots into abstract constellations → how does that come out of me in a helpful way? Essays? Lists? (That’s a living question.)
