I have a feeling we’re the same in this way:
I’m great at what I do!
But I’m hardly a Guru On The Mountain Here To Tell You How To Do Better, Like Me.
Nope.
I’m a person with multiple passions.
And I’m running a business with some of them, just like you.
I’m always incorporating new modalities and tools to improve my craft.
In other words: I am always experimenting.
And I’m always suggesting my clients run experiments, too.
But what does running experiments mean?
And where would you even begin?
First, you want to truly pay attention to what your people are asking for!
Respond to what’s relevant to them, in the moment they’re needing it.
Second, make sure you know your stuff, and that you’re staying in your area of expertise. (A core benefit of good branding? You know exactly what your zone of genius is, and what it isn’t!)
In the work I do with my private clients, we craft a unique, core piece of content from the ideas you already have and use every day. We work together to find The Thing. We get it out on paper, codify it, and make it yours to share and teach — in whatever ways your audience is asking for.
Taking what you know and adjusting the format to serve your potential clients? That’s the sort of thing you can offer when you truly know your work. The format can change, but the idea comes from the core principles of your brand.
That’s exactly what happened when I was co-teaching on a webinar.
We covered all the pieces, parts and principles of our One Page GPS Business Plan.
The one thing in our presentation that we didn’t include was an example of the finished product.
That was the topic that sent the chat into a frenzy. I scrolled through dozens of variations of “do you have an example of this?” “Can you show us what this looks like?” “Where can I get one of these?”
That was the invitation that led me to an off the cuff, “Sure! I can send an example of that for you! Just shoot us an email!” — which is how we got over 3k new subscribers on our email list in just a few days, and sent them a sample template of our plan as promised.
Yes, it was an off the cuff idea.
But I didn’t pull it out of thin air.
I listened to my audience. I heard what they were needing. I responded to the invitation, knowing I could pull from the foundational work and library of content we’ve already created.
And that’s the key:
Your experiments are within your area of expertise.
You pull from what you have that can be remixed.
You say yes to the things you can easily create with the resource of your solid foundation.
Til next time,
Jocelyn
P.S. I help my clients explore everything they’ve learned, practiced, and discovered throughout their career so we can establish an unshakeable confidence in their expertise.
